Brian Griffiths’ Art

"When I take a photo I feel like I am exploring as a child would. I can get excited by just the silliest things: building reflections, a plant, a path or a little bit of falling water. My shutter clicks numerous times as I try to find the best angle, the best moment that communicates my subject. When I return to my ‘digital darkroom’ the experimentation and exploration extends to play on the computer that reminds me of painting; if I could spray pixels at my screen in the way a painter flicks his or her brush at a canvas I would. The result, I hope, is a photograph charged with emotion, significance and, indeed, magic."

"From Pennsylvania to more mysterious sites further afield, in this series of photos, I draw my inspiration from the land: valleys, rolling hills, groves, flora, roads and paths, the cliffs of southern England and even Stonehenge itself."

"I have a long-standing love affair with water in my imagery, with the way it creates drama, motion, and interest in a photograph. The art in this section includes rushing and calm water, mist and waterfalls."

"With my more current work, I try to push boundaries through the use of experimental lenses, digital technology and camera technique. In all of my work, I am most concerned with a striking image and an emotional impact upon the viewer. The photographs in this gallery represent my furthest push into contemporary art."

"In this series I explore the buildings of Philadelphia as dynamic forms and haunting figures through the use of reflection, alternative lenses and digital technique. I have tried to focus on these structures as being more than just office buildings, but entities with their own personality and emotional feel, with distortions of form that often border over into the abstract."

"As a contrast to the 'Constructs', these photographs delve into the dreaminess of the cityscape. 'Spiritus' as a word means 'breath, breathing, life or spirit'."

"I've become fascinated with stubborn beauty and an aesthetic that weathers through time and its ravages. I have sought out settings that retain their grace, despite age and decay; and with this series I have mainly chose black and white to lend a feeling that the viewer has stepped out of the modern era."
